What is Healthy San Francisco?

Healthy San Francisco is a health coverage program for uninsured residents of San Francisco. It was created by the City of San Francisco in 2006 to ensure that low-income San Francisco residents without health insurance have access to affordable medical care including, but not limited to:

  • Preventive and Routine Care
  • Prescription Medicines
  • Specialty Services
  • Urgent and Emergency Care
  • Hospital Care
  • Mental Health Services
  • and More

Healthy San Francisco is not insurance.

If you have insurance, do not drop it. Insurance is always a better choice because Healthy San Francisco has limited services and places you can go to get medical care.

Participants in Healthy San Francisco select a Medical Home in San Francisco where they receive all basic health care services. There are more than 30 Medical Homes for Healthy San Francisco, most of which are clinics. Sometimes a Medical Home will be at full capacity and not currently taking new Healthy San Francisco patients, but there is always space for new members at other Medical Homes. We appreciate your patience as our clinics work to enroll qualified applicants as quickly as possible.
