Emergency Care
Care at a hospital Emergency Room is for medical emergencies only. This includes life-threatening or seriously dangerous illnesses or injuries. You may have a medical emergency if you’re experiencing:
- Difficulty breathing and/or shortness of breath
- Chest or upper stomach pain, or feel pressure in your chest
- Fainting spells or sudden dizziness or weakness
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea
- Feelings that you want to hurt yourself or others
If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should go to the hospital in your Medical Home Network or call 9-1-1. If you’re being treated at a hospital other than those in your Medical Home Newtwork, ask to be considered for that hospital’s free or reduced-cost care programs.
Healthy San Francisco does not include the cost of services at any hospital other than those in your Medical Home Network.
